Highly Skilled Craftsman
Here at The Renaissance Shop, LLC, our team of highly skilled craftsmen specializes in antique furniture restoration, custom-designed furniture and custom antique reproductions of chairs, dining tables, buffets, gold mirrors, wardrobes and more. We proudly build products using the same traditional methods typically found in quality European furniture made in past centuries. From the very start to the finishing touches, nothing is made on an assembly line, which ensures a quality unobtainable in larger, mass production factories. If you have a specific design in mind, we can produce custom-built wooden furniture to your detailed specifications.
From Photo to Fine Furniture
Custom Art Deco Table Build
When a client approached us with a photo of a vintage French Art Deco Macassar Ebony table inspired by Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann, we knew it was a special project. Working from that single image, we custom-built a completely new table from scratch. The finished piece features a refined blend of rich Macassar wood and a stunning veneered top with inlaid border—merging classic Art Deco elegance with updated detailing.
This project is a perfect example of how we can transform a reference photo and a client’s vision into a truly original, handcrafted piece.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to restore antique furniture?
The cost of restoring antique furniture can vary widely depending on the type, size, age, and condition of the piece, as well as the level of detail required. Small repairs, such as tightening joints or polishing, may cost as little as $100 to $300, while full restorations involving structural repairs, refinishing, or upholstery work can range from $500 to several thousand dollars. High-value or historically significant pieces often require specialist services, which may increase the cost. The best way to determine an accurate price is to have us evaluate the piece in person and provide a quote.
Is it worth restoring antique furniture?
Restoring antique furniture can be very worthwhile, especially if the piece has sentimental value, strong craftsmanship, or significant market value. Well-restored antiques can last for generations and may even appreciate in value if handled properly. However, for mass-produced or low-value items, the restoration cost may exceed the resale value. In those cases, restoration is usually more about preserving the beauty and function of the piece for personal enjoyment.
Should you wax or oil antique furniture?
Both wax and oil can be used, but the choice depends on the type of wood and finish. Waxing is generally safer for antiques. It creates a protective layer, enhances the patina, and can be reapplied without damaging the wood. Oiling penetrates into the wood and nourishes it, but some oils (like linseed oil) can darken or become sticky over time, which may not be suitable for valuable antiques. Most experts recommend using a high-quality paste wax for antique furniture, applied sparingly. At The Renaissance Shop, we prefer waxing to preserve the furniture’s integrity and beauty.
What should you not do with antique furniture?
To preserve antiques, avoid using harsh chemical cleaners or polishes, placing furniture in direct sunlight or near heat sources, over-waxing and/or -oiling, attempting DIY refinishing without experience, or using abrasive tools or sandpaper that could damage the furniture’s patina. Proper care usually means gentle cleaning and occasional, professional, maintenance!
